Up Our Game Workshops

Let’s face it, there’s a heck of a lot on farm that can put our people at risk, and when workloads are high, good health and safety practices can fall to the wayside. But it’s time we all take the wheel, set new standards and make sure our people come home safe, everyday.

Up Our Game Workshops are about getting our heads together, learning from each other and solving our health, safety and wellbeing challenges on farm, together. We’ll bring a different farmer and HS&W expert into each session centred on a specific topic. We’ll look at what’s been working, lessons learned and provide some helpful resources to apply in your business. If there’s a topic you’d like covered, let us know.

Workshops will be 45 minutes, online, free and loaded to our YouTube Channel to watch anytime.

The workshops aim to:

  • to provide a platform for farmers to learn from each other

  • to solve challenges around HS&W on farm together,

  • and to share helpful tools and ideas to reduce harm on farm.

Good Safety Conversations Pt2, How to do it!

19 October 2023

In part 2 of this series, we continue the theme of good safety conversations asking: How can we influence better health and safety conversations with our partners, families, workers, bosses and contractors?

Thanks to Alex Pattullo and Jenna Smith for sharing their lived experiences, as farmers and leading teams, navigating these hard-to-have conversations.

If you missed this session, you can read the summary or rewatch the session here.

Workshop #2: Good Safety Conversations

21 September 2023

Thanks to those who joined us last week. A key insight from this session was that health and safety is the outcome of great work.

As panelist and farmer, Becs Dondertman, said “if we plan well and execute well, we have a safe work environment.”

We are in a risky industry and that is why we need to plan. This workshop centred around three questions:

  1. What does a good safety conversation look like?

  2. What do we need to acknowledge our barriers to having them?

  3. And why are they important?

If you missed the workshop catch up here and read these handy takeaways.

Workshop #1: Where to Start?

30 August 2023: Many of you joined us for the first 'Up Our Game' workshop focused on “Where to start?”. We took it right back to basics, asking our panellists what good calls we can be making at the beginning of every day to protect our people. Leading by example and fostering a positive culture around safety were key themes.

If you missed the session, you can watch it free now and read our key takeaways on the Safer Farms blog.
