17 lives & 3,000 injured every year for tens of billions in exports.

Should we be paying this price?

Clearly the answer is no! Well the first step, is to identify that we have a problem we want to tackle together. So that’s how the bold, system-wide Farm Without Harm strategy and action plan was born - by the sector, for the sector.

In 2021 Safer Farms commissioned this work in response to the concerning and persistent rates of harm experienced by those working on farms.

In June 2023 we are all, as one community, calling time on this unacceptable level of harm, drawing a line in the sand on and collectively redesigning our workplaces one step at a time to be the change we want to see at every level of the rural sector. It’s going to take all of us to make real change. Join the movement, be part of the solution. Here’s how:

We are not waiting for some to take the lead, it lies with all of us all the time

By signing the pledge you are committing to play a part in reducing the human toll in producing food and fibre that nourishes our nation, economy and people globally. This showcases that your farming business rejects a ‘she’ll be right’ attitude and a ‘half-arsed’ approach to harm. Scroll down to sign it now.

Your farming business influences more than you’ll ever realise - whether it’s through working with us to activate a 'systems design' approach to reducing harm out of the farming workplace or simply just encouraging others to no longer be defined by bad attitudes towards wellbeing & safety through social media - we all need you behind this movement! Follow us on Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn and share our campaign video

Step 3: Be Part of the Solution

Download posters, stickers & gate signs for your farm or workplace and make a stand that your workplace isn't half arsed about health, safety and wellbeing. Join our workshops and agri think tanks and help us design harm out of farming.

The best way to know how you can get involved is to sign up to our newsletter. There are new initiatives running all the time and we welcome farmers, industry and the local community to get involved.

Our Pledge

Unacceptable levels of harm are affecting our farmers, their families, our rural communities.

As a member of the New Zealand primary sector, we are committed to reducing the human cost of producing food and fibre that nourishes our nation, economy and people globally.

Today we pledge to align with the vision of Farm without Harm where everyday farming people are protecting one another from preventable harm.

From this moment on, we reject complacency. We take real responsibility. And we don’t wait for
someone else to take the lead.

Because farming without harm, starts with each of us.

We pledge a commitment to:

  • Being an active driver of change within and beyond our business by designing and implementing solutions that prevent harm on farm.

  • Not being defined by the attitudes of the past, but to a new culture of care that redefines health, safety and wellbeing and makes it a genuine priority in our everyday workplaces and communities.

  • Working together across the sector to share knowledge by listening and learning from the experiences of others and setting a clear example of the change we want to see.
